Following the parent workshop, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils took part in two separate assemblies focused on their future journeys and the role of science in everyday life.

In the Year 5 assembly, pupils thought about their future learning journey, including the different pathways available after primary school, such as secondary school, college, university and apprenticeships. They were encouraged to think about their aspirations, recognise the importance of skills such as curiosity, teamwork and resilience, and understand how science links to a wide range of exciting careers.

In the Year 6 assembly, pupils focused on how science supports learning, particularly how the brain works and the importance of keeping it healthy. They learnt about the role of nutrition, hydration and sleep in helping them to focus, remember and succeed. The session also highlighted key skills such as concentration, problem-solving and resilience, and how these are important for both their SATs and their future pathways.

Both assemblies encouraged pupils to stay curious, believe in themselves and recognise that their future is full of possibilities.

Children across years 4, 5 and 6 were able to discover where water comes from and how it is used every day. After being put into small teams, the children had to build and code their own Lego robots and compete in exciting real-world water-saving challenges on a floor map. A virtual total of 4,964 litres were saved by the children! It was a fantastic day where the children explored their creativity using STEM skills. Thank you Affinity Water for gifting us this experience!

In September, 12 children started a project on human rights and law. They were involved in researching the topic, having one to one meetings with their assigned university tutor, who would guide their thinking, and finally write up all their research in a 1000-word essay. The standard was very high as they were expected to reference, use academic language and be resilient in their writing.

After all their hard work, on Tuesday 24th February, the children attended their graduation at SOAS (School of Oriental and Asian Studies), University of London.

Having a slice of university life, our year 6 children were given a full campus tour of the university, spoke to student ambassadors, explored different university societies and ultimately, celebrated their success! Well done, year 6, you are now alumni of the scholar’s programme 2026!

This week, we are celebrating the fantastic work happening in our classrooms, where children are learning to talk about their emotions, build resilience, and show kindness to others. Our non-school uniform day, “Wear It Bright,” was a fun and colourful way to spotlight mental health, reminding everyone that it’s okay to speak up, ask for help, and spread positivity.

It was a week defined by community and immersive learning. Our hands-on drumming workshop allowed children to explore African musicality through rhythm and song. A massive thank you to our wonderful parent helpers (guest speakers), who brought the magic of Somali heritage to life by providing invaluable first-hand insights into Somali culture. We were captivated by stories of Somali traditions, beautiful clothing, culminating in a joyful performance of music and dance that had the whole year group on their feet!

Across the curriculum, the children demonstrated great curiosity:

Geography: We explored the concept of "Global Citizenship" by comparing life in the UK to different African regions.

Creative Arts: Our classrooms were transformed by vibrant animal silhouette paintings and intricate Somali-inspired designs.

Computing: Using digital research skills, pupils celebrated the achievements of famous African pioneers.

Last week, our school celebrated cultural week and our focus was ‘The Countries from the Commonwealth.’ During our guided reading lessons, we looked at the 2023 Commonwealth short story winner and Jamaican born writer, Kwame Mcpherson’s, ‘Occee’ – a story about racism and discrimination as an immigrant. In addition, the children also participated in a carnival dance workshop where they were able to explore the dance style of a carnival. They were remarkable! Keeping with the active theme, as a year group, we played a traditional commonwealth game from India called ‘Kabaddi’ – despite the windy weather, the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. To finish off our celebration of culture, the children created beautiful pieces of artwork from different countries around the commonwealth, ranging from Aborigini art to travel posters of the time.

They kicked things off with an energetic drumming workshop, then dived into the vibrant world of Pakistani truck art, discovering the colours and stories behind these beautifully decorated vehicles. The class also became young researchers, investigating the UAE and creating their own fact files to share what they had learnt. To round off the week, they explored the Arabic alphabet and experimented with patterns inspired by Islamic art. It was a lively, creative week that opened their eyes to new cultures and ideas.

Over the course of 16 weeks, the children designed their own business. They had to find their target audience, select a product, market the product and finally present it to their peers and parents. The aim was to ensure the children learnt lifelong skills that they would be able to use as they get older, if one day they wanted to be an entrepreneur. The children worked incredibly hard, and we would like to thank Tirzah Elese (https://www.uconnecthub.com/) for all of her commitment and support in delivering the content. .

In September, the children started a project on rights and law. They were involved in researching about the topic, having one to one meetings with their university tutor, who would guide their thinking, and finally write up all their research in a 1000 word essay. The standard was very high as they were expected to reference, use academic language and be resilient in their writing.

On graduation day, they were given a full campus tour of the university, spoke to student ambassadors, explore different university societies and ultimately, celebrate their success! To begin children’s mental health week, each year group had a workshop run by Empower Arts. The session began with a discussion on what mental health is and how we all feel different emotions. The children then played emotional musical statues: showing different body language for each emotion. Next, they learned actions to go with positive affirmations and said, “I am brave, I am strong and my feelings matter!”
In groups, the children made freeze frames of different scenarios they may come across in the playground and spoke about their thoughts.
The children will continue to be complete mental health activities throughout the week.

During Culture Week, Year 4 explored the rich and diverse continent of Africa, immersing ourselves in its vibrant cultures and traditions. One of the highlights was our traditional African drumming workshop, where we learned rhythmic patterns and sang traditional African songs. We were also fortunate to welcome parent helpers, who shared fascinating insights into African culture, including Somali clothing and traditional food. They even led a fantastic performance of dance and music, which we were excited to join in with. Throughout the week, we got creative and engaged in a range of activities: we painted stunning African animal silhouettes and decorated traditional Somali attire. In computing, we researched famous African figures and created informative fact sheets. In geography, we explored the similarities and differences between children’s lives in Africa and our own lives.

Last week, our school celebrated cultural week and our focus culture was ‘The Countries from the Commonwealth.’ During our guided reading lessons, we looked at the 2023 Commonwealth short story winner and Jamaican born writer, Kwame Mcpherson’s, ‘Occee’ – a story about racism and discrimination as an immigrant.
We were also very fortunate to have a parent come and share about the culture in Uganda. Children had a chance to learn about the food, fashion and famous sights as well as a time for questions. It was such a personal experience for the children!
To finish off our celebration of culture, the children created beautiful art pieces from different countries around the commonwealth, ranging from Aborigini art to national flowers and flags of the commonwealth.

Cultural WeekTo begin culture week and our study of India, the year 5’s were immersed in a Bhangra dance workshop. It began with a quick introduction to the history of the dance and where it originated from: Punjab, India.
Before beginning the dancing, the teacher shared three key points to remember when dancing
1. Smiling is vital
2. Bounce your shoulders
3. 97% of moves start with the left foot.
The children then learned an 8 step Bhangra dance which they did in time with music and performed.
The teacher then introduced a ‘saap’ -a wooden instrument that claps together to make a sound that represents showing power. The alternative to this is shouting ‘Hoi!’ The next step the children learnt was the ‘fasla ’ which represents harvesting the crops which was done by farmers. The children then performed their final piece and were excellent.
Throughout the week the children also had fun learning all about India. They made maps which identified the capital cities, key states and seas surrounding India and Sri Lanka. In Guided Reading, the children learnt about Princess Sophia Duleep Singh and made informative posters about her life and struggles to achieve equal rights for women. During Art lessons the children made some fabulous Rangoli patterns as well as using their skills to replicate drawings of the Taj Mahal. Some of the children even made fact files about India. Well done to Year 5, for producing such fantastic work and learning so much about India!
