Parent Courses

Fully funded Level 2 Qualifications

This year, a number of parents completed a CACHE LEVEL 2 Understanding Children’s & Young People's Mental Health qualification. This gave them a detailed understanding of mental health conditions that affect children and young people, the legislation and guidance surrounding mental health, risk factors that may affect mental well-being and the impact that mental health concerns may have on young people and others.

Learning Curve are delighted to be able to offer this course again to parents and have opened up their online enrolment and induction process for this course and also a number of flexible learning courses.

This means anyone can have access to courses whether you've studied with them before or not. These courses are a great CPD opportunity, allowing you to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

  • No cost at all to the learner or the company
  • Nationally recognised Level 2 qualifications by NCFE/CACHE
  • Complete in as little as 6 weeks
  • Study online.

ESOL

ESOL classes are delivered every Wednesday between 9.00am and 11.00am at Minet Junior School. This eight week course is for parents and carers who want to practise their speaking and listening skills to help develop confidence and improve their spoken English.

Each session is two hours long with 100% attendance expected. You will learn new words relating to everyday school situations such as making appointments, reporting your child’s absence, discussing your child’ progress, etc and practise pronouncing (saying) them. You will also learn how to actively participate in face-to- face and telephone conversations.

Places are on a first come, first served basis and are very popular. Notification of the next course will be in March.

GROW Project for Women

Parents from Minet Junior School recently completed a four week course with GROW. Each session helped the women build their confidence, enhance their skills and motivated them to take control and consider moving back into work.

The GROW Project encourages women to take small steps to getting back on the ladder to gain employability. This could be through a qualification or organising work experience. The course helps women recognise their skills and abilities, and what they want to change about their lives.

GROW have helped many women to take those first steps. Sessions are held at Minet Junior School on a Tuesday morning between 9.00am and 11.00am. Courses are relaxed and informal and run for two hours. They cover CVs, interview techniques and action plans for getting back to work.

Our first group of parents who recently completed their GROW project. Although the course is finished, parents are offered support until they find employment.

Feedback from parents was extremely positive.

“I learnt a lot from GROW. Now I am ready for a job. I am very thankful to Minet Junior School who told us about GROW”

“I was very happy to have joined the GROW programme. It was really helpful for parents who stay at home and look after children. This programme has boosted my confidence and I am ready to apply for jobs”.

“I learnt a lot. I feel very motivated and the ladies were very nice and positive.”

The next GROW session will run after the Easter holidays.

If you are interested in attending this course, please contact Mrs Taylor.

The next GROW course will commence on Tuesday 21st April.
