Silly Squad Summer Reading Challenge 2020

The Summer Reading Challenge is back from Friday 5 June 2020, helping children in Hillingdon to enjoy a summer of brilliant books.

Pick Your Challenge

This year’s Silly Squad Summer Reading Challenge gives children aged 4 to 11 the chance to set a personal reading target while they’re away from school, in a new online version of this popular initiative run by libraries and The Reading Agency.

The Challenge runs from June to September 2020.

How many books will you read?

Children can decide how big or small they want their challenge to be by setting a target for the number of books they want to read this summer.

Any type of book counts towards the challenge. This year’s Silly Squad theme is emphasising funny books and reading things that make you happy.

To take part, create an account for your child on The Reading Agency’s dedicated website, SillySquad.Org.UK

Please note, the site will go live when the Challenges launches on 5 June.

Children can use the site to record each book they read, post reviews and even download a special Summer Reading Challenge certificate.

To find books for the Summer Reading Challenge, why not browse the selection available on Hillingdon Libraries’ free e-reading app, BorrowBox?

We’re expanding the range of books on the app to help ensure that children have as many titles as possible to choose from.

Featuring books from some of children’s fiction’s most popular authors, including JK Rowling, Roald Dahl and David Walliams, BorrowBox offers library card holders the chance to borrow digital books and audiobooks for free on their computer or smart device. Find out more about BorrowBox here.

Funny Fridays

Hillingdon Libraries has a range of fun online activities planned to support the Silly Squad Summer Reading Challenge 2020, including Funny Fridays, a themed weekly offer on our social media channels.

Funny Fridays will promote a different children’s author every week, with hilarious crafts, quizzes, worksheets and more inspired by our chosen writer’s work.

Stay tuned for news of other online activities throughout the summer.
