Sayers Croft

Day 2
We knew today would be a success after the children only woke up at 6:30 when the morning call was at 7am. A few boys in Miss Sweeney’s dorm were all dressed, ready to go and smiling sweetly when she knocked on their door. So naturally, Miss Pang took them out for a morning run around the field before breakfast. Breakfast consisted of hash browns, eggs, toast , mushrooms, tomatoes. It got the job done for a morning breakfast.
After breakfast, we were greeted by 2 familiar London faces in the form of Miss Mcinerney and Miss Paige. They accompanied us the whole day in the different activities and were able to spend time with the children they would usually see at school on a regular basis.
Unlike yesterday, where we were all separated into 3 different groups, we were able to spend the time together this morning pond dipping, navigating the wood compass and making ballistas. The children were fascinated with all the creatures they found in the pond, including a dragonfly nymph! Children also learnt how to use a compass and navigated a route in the woods. Making giant ballistas tested all our relationships as we catapulted sponges filled with water at each other. It is safe to say that World War 3 did not start in Sayers Croft today.
After a lunch of cheese and onion quiche or tomato pasta. We set off to our individual group activities. Children participated in activities that other groups did yesterday: challenge course, raft building and high ropes. Temperatures rose to over 30 degrees today, so many children had their second shower of the day after an afternoon filled with sweaty activities.
Evening entertainment was mainly for the teachers this time. We taught all the children how to play a game of rounders and were thoroughly pleased that we had taught another cohort this legendary sport.
However, the real highlight tonight was our campfire. We were able to enjoy a campfire just as the sun was setting. The children, under the supervision of all the teachers, were able to make s’mores. Something most of them had only ever seen in American TV shows and movies.
After a few songs of their newly composed song “Dylan is on the bus.” we decided to call it a day. The children returned to their dorms and had their third and final shower of the day.
Judging from the sweet notes of snoring that Miss Pang can hear from the girl's dorm, it has been an enjoyable albeit exhausting day for the campers.
Third and final day tomorrow. Does time move differently here? How are we heading home tomorrow already?
