Oral Hygiene Workshop
During our recent Oral Hygiene Workshop, pupils learnt about the importance of caring for their teeth and gums, beginning with an understanding of plaque – a sticky film of bacteria that can cause tooth decay and gum problems if not cleaned regularly. They were also taught to recognise the signs of gum disease, such as redness, swelling or bleeding and were reminded to inform an adult if these symptoms occur.
The session emphasised the need to brush twice daily, in the morning and evening, using a toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste to help keep teeth strong.
Children explored the different types of teeth, incisors, canines and molars and their roles while eating. They also had the opportunity to use tooth models and practise the correct brushing techniques, including circular motions and cleaning the inside and outside surfaces of the teeth as well as the tongue. The workshop provided valuable knowledge and hands-on experience to support good lifelong oral hygiene habits.
