A Week of Wonder: World Book Day at Minet Junior School

Our Year 4 students had an unforgettable World Book Day celebration, stretching the magic of stories across an entire week of discovery and inspiration.

The adventure began on Tuesday with an educational visit to Botwell  Library. Year 4 were introduced to the library's extensive facilities, learning that it is a place for more than just books—it is a community space for audiobooks, clubs and learning. Children enjoyed browsing the vast selection of titles, finding their favourite stories and spending time reading in the quiet atmosphere of the library. To encourage continued reading, every child was provided with an application form to sign up for their own library card. On World Book Day, the school was filled with colour as children and staff arrived dressed up as their favourite book characters. Year 4 wrote about their favourite authors, explaining what they love most about their characters and books. Every child also received a World Book Day token to buy a book of their choice, ensuring the celebration continued at home. We were honoured to end the week on Friday with a visit from internationally published author Chitra Soundar. Chitra led an inspiring assembly for the entire school, sharing her journey as a storyteller. Our Year 4 students participated in a hands-on workshop where Chitra shared her ‘idea blaster’ approach, teaching them how to turn everyday moments into brand-new stories. Year 4's were excited to meet the creator of the Nikhil and Jay book series, which has now been adapted into a popular CBeebies series.

It was a phenomenal week that truly brought the joy of reading to life for our pupils!
