Residential Year 6 Trip -Sayers Croft
What a brilliant start to our residential adventure!
The children were up bright and early this morning, full of excitement as we set off on our journey. There was a slight delay before we left, but spirits stayed high and the coach was soon on its way, buzzing with chatter and laughter and a lot of Oliver songs being sung!
Once we arrived, it was straight to getting settled in – beds were made (some more successfully than others!), and everyone showed great teamwork in helping each other out. After a quick fire drill to make sure we all knew what to do, it was time to refuel with lunch.
The afternoon was packed full of activities, with different groups trying their hand at everything from archery to raft building. Some children tackled the high ropes with incredible bravery, while others got stuck into constructing their own ballistas – teamwork and creativity were on full display!
After dinner, we headed outside for an evening of rounders and football. For many, it was their very first time playing rounders, but you wouldn’t have known – the enthusiasm was infectious and there were lots of laughs and some surprise sporting talent on show.
To end the day, we took a peaceful (but slightly spooky!) walk through the forest and completed a creative scavenger hunt. By the time we got back, everyone was more than ready for a good night’s sleep.
A full, fun and fabulous first day – bring on tomorrow!
Sayers Croft - Day 2
Day two and we were off to a flying start – the children were up early, full of excitement and raring to go for another day of fun! (E.g waking the teachers up at the crack of dawn!)
We definitely had to brace the weather today – it was a scorcher! Hats were firmly on, suncream was generously applied, and the water bottles were in constant use. The children coped brilliantly with the heat and didn’t let it slow them down one bit.
After a hearty cooked breakfast (the hash browns were a firm favourite!), we got stuck into the day’s activities. Although pond dipping wasn’t on the cards, we swapped it out for a meadow sweep instead – and what a success it was! The children discovered butterflies, bugs, and all kinds of creepy crawlies, showing great enthusiasm and curiosity.
One group had a go at building shelters in the woods, putting their teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test – there were some very impressive structures! Other groups took on the high ropes and archery, with plenty of determination, encouragement, and beaming smiles.
Just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better – we had a surprise visit from Miss Ryan and Mrs Connolly!
In the evening, we gathered around the campfire for a brilliant end to the day – singing songs, sharing stories, and making delicious s’mores (sticky fingers and chocolatey smiles all round!).
Despite the blazing sunshine, everyone survived the heat like pros and headed to bed tired, happy, and full of marshmallows and memories. Another fantastic day to remember!
