Year 3
In Year 3, we learn about how to care for our planet through different subjects across the curriculum.
Science – Living Things and Their Habitats
In this lesson, pupils explored soil as a habitat and learnt about the variety of living organisms it supports. They investigated invertebrates such as earthworms, identifying their key features, diet and living conditions. Pupils developed an understanding of the important role these organisms play in breaking down organic matter and maintaining healthy soil. This learning supported their awareness of biodiversity and how living things contribute to natural environmental processes.

Geography - Plant Adaptations
In this lesson, pupils explored different ways coastlines can be protected from erosion and flooding. They learnt about methods such as sea walls, groynes, rock armour and beach nourishment, and how these help reduce the impact of waves on the land. Pupils demonstrated their understanding by describing and comparing these coastal defences, developing an awareness of how humans can protect natural environments.

- Global Citizenship
Science – Investigating Acid Rain and Pollution
In this lesson, pupils investigated the effects of acid rain on plants through a hands-on experiment using different solutions. They observed and compared the impact on plant growth, developing their understanding of how pollution affects the environment. Pupils then applied their learning by creating posters to raise awareness about the harmful effects of pollution on plants and the importance of protecting the natural world.

Science (Learning for a Sustainable Future)
During British Science Week, pupils explored biodiversity and the importance of different living things. They learned how animals adapt to their habitats, including identifying camouflaged animals and labelling features of sea creatures to explain how these help them survive in different environments.
Pupils demonstrated their understanding through labelled drawings, identifying local habitats and describing the plants and animals that live there. This supported their awareness of how living things depend on their environment and the importance of protecting ecosystems.
