Year 5 pupils had a wonderful time learning about India during Culture Week.

Firstly, we did some map work using atlases to locate India, its cities and places of interest. We learnt a variety of facts and some of the children used this information to make fact files and continued their research at home. We looked closely at Indian art work and made some colourful Rangoli patterns and some pupils even sketched the Taj Mahal. The highlight of the week was our visitor Mr Singh, who taught the children how to perform Bhangra dance. Every one thoroughly enjoyed the workshop.

  • Parental Involvement in promoting STEM at Minet Junior School

    Tue 09 Jan 2024

RE: Parental Involvement in promoting STEM at Minet Junior School
    Dear Parent/Carer,
As a part of our efforts to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), I would like to invite parental speakers to participate in our Science Week. The purpose of the event is to convey to pupils the link between what they are learning in school and their future, hopefully serving to raise aspirations.
We are specifically interested in parents who are from a qualified professional background in the STEM field (careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and feel comfortable speaking to a large group of children about their daily work, what it involves, what they like about it, the challenges they had to face as a student to achieve this position and how they have the power to improve the lives of those around them.
The event is planned for Tuesday 12th March 2024 from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. After a brief introduction, the time would consist of parents speaking to the children (Year 3- Year 6) for between 10 and 15 minutes about their job.
If you are able to give up some of your valuable time to support STEM at Miner Junior School, please let us know by Friday 27th January 2024 via email to office@minetjunior.org.uk with details of your name, profession and contact details.
Alternatively, if you have any family or friends who would be willing to contribute in this way, I would be grateful if you could let me know.
    Yours faithfully,
    Mrs.Rizwan
    Science Lead
