  • World's Largest Lesson

    On Monday 31 October, 2022, we celebrated United Nations day (belatedly) by looking at the World’s Largest Lesson. Across the school, children learned about the Global Development Goals set by the United Nations and how these goals link to their UNCRC rights. Children then created posters and comic strips to show how they could help meet these goals with ‘Teaspoons of Change’ and as Global Goal Heroes.

     

  • Year 5 Viking Day

    On Tuesday 18th October, Year 5 celebrated ‘Viking Day’ by dressing up as Vikings and taking part in fun, educational activities. The children were fully immersed in Viking culture by cooking oatcakes, which are a sweet treat that comes from the Viking era. They created, designed and made Viking shields, which were unique to each child. In addition, during Physical Education the children replicated battle movements and ship oaring movements like Vikings did in the past. The children had a lot of fun and very much enjoyed the whole day!

    A non-school uniform day was held in honour of World Mental Health Day on Friday 14th of October.  The children brought in £1 and we are delighted to announce we raised £250.00.

     

  • Year 5 Pedestrian Training

    This term, Year 5 pupils participated in pedestrian training to help them prepare to go outside and navigate roads as independent travellers. They were taught the key pedestrian road safety rules. Children were taught to recognise safe crossing places on the road side and have an understanding of road signs and pedestrian crossings. This was put into practise when children were able to cross the road independently under the supervision of a road safety trainer. The children had a great morning and the sessions were very beneficial. 

     

  • STEAM 22

    Minet Junior School were very excited to be invited to attend the STEAM 22 day organised by ACS International School at Thorpe Park. 10,000 children from schools around the country attended the event.

     

    The children saw a number of static displays including the Band of the RAF, a walking and talking robot (who squirted water) and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, where they had the opportunity to play a variety of percussion instruments with the musicians. The children also had the opportunity to go on some exciting rides.
